Biodegradable Products Institute is an organization that certifies that so-called "biodegradable" plastic products will safely break down in a typical commercial composting facility.

E-Stewards is a program that certifies that recyclers of electronic equipment adhere to the highest standard of environmental responsibility and worker protection. Energy Star is a joint program of the US Department of Energy and US Environmental Protection Agency where you can find certified energy-efficient products (such as light fixtures, exit signs, appliances and office equipment). www.energystar.gov

EPA Recycled Content: EPA designated products that are or can be made with recovered materials, and recommended practices for buying these products. Once a product is designated, procuring agencies are required to purchase it with the highest recovered material content level practicable. The Commonwealth of PA follows the Federal EPA guidelines for minimum post-consumer recycled content.

Each model year, EPA rates every new car, truck, and Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) for greenhouse gas and smog-forming emissions on scales of 1-10. To earn the SmartWay designation, a vehicle must receive a combined score from both scales that is much better than the average vehicle.
